Are Feathered Grain’s products food safe?
Yes. All Feathered Grain’s wood products are food safe. All products are finished with a combination of mineral oil and beeswax.
How do I care for my board?
- Never soak wood products in water.
- Don’t clean wood products in the dishwasher.
- Never use wood products in a microwave or conventional oven.
- Don’t leave wood products in direct sunlight for long periods of time.
- Never allow one side or an edge to be left on a wet surface.
- Occasionally turn your hanging board to expose both sides to air.
- Do not store your board near a stove or other heat source.
- Do not store near a window if you live in a climate where temperature changes often.
- Apply board butter whenever the wood appears to be dry and water droplets no longer bead on the surface.
What is Board Butter?
Board Butter is a blend of FDA approved food safe Mineral Oil (which can be found at any drugstore) and Organic Beeswax. My Board Butter has a ratio of 3 parts mineral oil to 1 part Beeswax.
Feel free to use simply Mineral Oil to re-season your board. However if you would like to rebuild the protective coat on your board I would recommend using the Mineral Oil and Beeswax blend.
